    Hi there,

I have been running a site as a test before going live. The site has been fine, until I elected to do an automatic update to 2.9.2, as per WordPress’ advice in my admin. The Internet Explorer progress bar stayed stationary at about 50% for over 30 minutes, then it announced there has been a problem. Ever since then, whenever I try to access my site, I get this message:

    Server error!
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.

    Error message:
Premature end of script headers: install.php

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

    Error 500
    ccgi.lumbnet.plus.com
    Wed Jun 9 12:20:27 2010
    Apache

As you can see, the website is ccgi.lumbnet.plus.com. This has been working fine for over a year, but now I have tried deleting all the files, reinstalling, copying over all of the original files, but nothing seems to work! Whichever page I try to access, it always comes up with the same error.

    Please help somebody!

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • it may be because of pluging

rename your plugin folder and try to install

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

No dice on that, I’m afraid. Same error…

Where did you download the files from to copy back up?

Hi, to begin with, I tried copying up the files from my local computer. I made a point of downloading them beforehand. When that didn’t work, I tried deleting everything on the server and trying a fresh install.

Thankfully, it was only a test site. So losing anything on there was not a problem. But now, when I go to install.php, it throws up exactly the same screen.

Oh, and sorry – the link I supplied to my website was wrong. It should be http://ccgi.lumbnet.plus.com/bm/

    Sorry, I phrased myself badly…

Did you download your copy from wordpress.org? That is, did you get it from here: http://wordpress.org/download/

Yep, I certainly did. I wouldn’t want to get them from anywhere else

    Just checking 🙂

Check for blank lines in your wp-config.php file.

That said, this is usually a PHP as CGI error, and your webhost may have to fix it.

Okay, thanks very much for your advice. I’ll have a word with my webhost and see what they say…

I’ll report back any findings. Thanks very much for your help!

My webhost suggested that it may be a problem with the htaccess file. However, I know very little about these, and I can’t seem to find any in the wordpress file despite having show all files enabled.

How is the htaccess file supposed to be set up for WordPress? I have tried a few solutions, from using a blank one on the root to using code from various forums. None of this seemed to work…

You could rename .htaccess but … that seems weird.

Using Permalinks details how to set up the .htaccess.

Hm, I seem to have fixed it!
It seems that I changed chmod to 775, then back to 755 and now everything is working…

I wonder if the failed upgrade attempt changed some file permissions…?

Also, I completely removed the htaccess file that I had been working on.

Oh well. One to remember. Thanks to you guys for all your help and advice, the Using Permalinks advice was invaluable.

    Cheers!
