Update Permalink Error (4 posts)

    WordPress version: 2.2

    I updated changed my Permalink settings then updated and received "You should update your .htaccess now."

    I went to the following link.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Permalinks_Options_SubPanel

    I FTPed into my server where I have my blog.

    I am unable to find where the .htaccess file is located to updated the file.

    Now when I click I links I receive a server error.

    I have this same problem. How do I update .htaccess ? Help!

    Hi,

    You may locate .htaccess file in the root folder of your domain..if it not there then you simply create .htaccess file and assign 644 permissions to that file.

    after that you can add your rules in that .htaccess file.

    Thanks, Shane. So to spell it out for me, the non-coder:

    I create a text file and name it ".htaccess"

    I add what code/rules to it?

    I thought that unix numbered permissions like 644 are only for folders, (someone one another thread said this) is that not true?

    Your patience and help is much appreciated.
