I tried to automatically upgrade my site a few days ago. The site crashed and gave me a Cannot redeclare the_editor() error.
I managed to manually upgrade all the wp files except for the wp-content folder and the site started working again. It looks like it's upgraded (I see new features, like the integrated toolbar), but at the top of the browser window there is the message "An automated WordPress update has failed to complete - please attempt the update again now."
I'm confused. I thought I upgraded. And if I didn't, who's to say this upgrade won't crash my site again?
Any advice?
Try:
- switching to the Twenty Eleven theme.
- deactivating all plugins.
- re-running the upgrade

thanks,
I tried this but then it got stuck on "unpacking update".
I've lost faith in WP's automatic updating system...
Do it manually. If it fails on unpacking update, the issue is with your server's ability to process the file for some reason.
You could review your server logs to see what the error is, but most people just upgrade manuallt to get around it.

I did upgrade manually (everything but wp-content), that's why I'm surprised it says I still need an upgrade.
