I downloaded buddypress, and can't even get it to open. I've been fighting navigating the website to try to find information on it and it has taken me over an hour.

Seems to me somebody dropped tha ball with this BIG TIME!

(I'm no dummy, I'm a webmaster and have Admin privileges on several sites.)

You may need to elaborate. I just downloaded the package and extracted the contents to my desktop in less than 30 seconds.

    "Manual Download

The easiest way to get up and running with BuddyPress is via the automatic install. However, it's still possible to manually download BuddyPress. Once you have BuddyPress downloaded, you will need to upload it to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder."
