Unwanted spam popups on my site

    Hello folks,
    If someone could help me with a distressing problem I’d be most grateful!
    For the last month my WP site has had unwanted popups – click any of the buttons, links or menu items and occasionally a popup ad will appear saying CONGRATULATIONS and offering the viewer a free grocery voucher if they click ‘OK’ (I’ve never clicked it!).
    I’ve tried disabling all my plugins to no avail, then tried a plethora of ‘malware scanning’ plugins but the problem persists. Would any of you clever folk know of a way to locate and eradicate this problem?

    (It’s part of a multisite installation but the problem only occurs on this particular site, none of the others).

    Have you tried:

    – switching to the default 2014 theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    i have checked your site in ubantu os….there are no popup…so may it’s browser prblm not wordpress….plz reinstall your browser…othetwise check site at other computer

    esmi, thank you for the suggestions – I will try all of these things and tell you how I get on!

    manojrohtela, this problem seems to have a habit of going away for ages and suddenly recurring: which is part of what makes the problem so annoying! I have observed the problem on 4 separate machines (running chrome, vista, XP and Win7): but thank you very much for having a look – it’s heartening to know the popup problem happens only occasionally, at least!!
