We run a website called thingsboganslike.com and have noticed occasional ads appearing beneath our posts. It's only on certain people's computers, and sporadic at best, but it's deeply annoying, as we don't want to advertise on our site, and if we did, we'd at least like to get money for it! Any thoughts?

Your site is hosted on WordPress.com, where they reserve the right to place ads on your site. That is one of the conditions of using their service.
If you want no ads, you'll need to self-host your WordPress blog.
Here are some of the differences between WordPress.com (hosted) & WordPress.org (self-hosted) blogs. Here's some more info about advertising on WordPress.com blogs.
BTW - these forums (in which you posted here) are for self-hosted blogs, so if you have additional questions aqbout WordPress.com blogs, you're better off posting over in their forums.
