Unirdered Category List in Manage Posts Page

On the Manage Posts page, the drop down list of categories for filtering lists the categories in no semblance of order. They are not arranged alphabetically or by number of posts, or by any other criteria that I can figure out. The only order they retain is that subcategories appear below the proper category. Other than that, they seem entirely random, which makes it very difficult to find the desired category.
