unexpected T_LNUMBER in class-phpass.php on line 50 (4 posts)

After upgrading from 2.3.3 to 2.6.2, I am unable to login to wp-admin thanks to the error 'unexpected T_LNUMBER in class-phpass.php on line 50'. I've looked at the offending line and have no idea what the problem could be. My host was running PHP 4, but I've upgraded to PHP 5 and the problem persists.

The blog is running fine, otherwise. Just unable to log into wp-admin. I've found only two other references online to the same error. One was on a Swedish blog. After parsing the output of Google translator, it seems the blog owner there had not found a solution. The other reference was in a non-English forum which requires registration to view, so I didn't get far there.

Anyone have any ideas? I have two other blogs I'd like to upgrade, but I'm holding off until I get this issue sorted.

I'm having this exact same problem - did you find a solution in the end?

I'm getting the same problem now with a vanilla download and brand new database. Any ideas anyone?

Finally worked out what it was - the FTP client (Filezilla) was messing up the transfer of class-phpass.php to my hosting provider even though it was set to auto-dectect the method of uploading.

I uploaded class-phpass.php using a different FTP client and it's all working now.
