• I like how easy it is to redefine my permalinks … BUT
    I’m converting from MT where I used underscores inbetween the spaces of a title
    whereas WP uses hypens … for example, the following permalink template:
    /%year%%monthnum%%day%_%postname%
    MT = /20040517_happy_birthday_dean
    WP = /20040517_happy-birthday-dean
    Might it be possible to offer some sort of configuration option where we could switch?
    I know alot of MT users URL’ize with underscores since that’s what is default with that product …
    … having an underscores option would help us from killing popular links when we transition.

  • Install and activate this plugin and then import your MT posts. If you have already imported, see the code I posted on this thread. Also, there are several ways to redirect your MT style permalinks with underscores to WP style permalinks with dashes. Dashes are more google friendly, so some people stay with the WP dash style and redirect their old MT links.

    Mind if I ask a STUPID question?
    I’ve just spent the last 30 minutes, trying to find where I can RTFM a “how to install plug-ins” … I know the exist in wp-content/plugins … do I just copy them there and activate from user console?
    BTW, thanks for the plug-in.

    yes. put the plugin file into the wp-content/plugins directory. then, activate the plugin in wp.

    Thanks, did that … was able to “enable” it … now one last really stupid question.
    sanitize_title_with_underscores() … goes in my template?
    (like I said, I don’t my RTFM’ing, but having a tough time finding the one on plug-ins)

    Whoops .. okay, I get it … just re-read your post …
    … “and then import your MT posts”
    Yeah, okay, I’ll just wack the database and start over.
