   Ever since 2.9 I haven't been able to update WordPress via the update now link in the dashboard so I have been doing it manually via ftp. Since I updated to 3.0 and I click on the updates on the sidebar it loads update-core.php and displays the message "You are not allowed to call this page directly." I am guessing that this is a server thing but nothing in the error logs help diagnose the problem. Any ideas?

   Try:
   - switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme's folder using FTP (or use whatever file management application your host provides)

   - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

   - re-running the upgrade.

   I ended up deactivating all my plugins and then clicked on updates and it worked then I reactivated all my plugins and it still works... that is weird.
