• Warning – I’m not a wp pro…I had this professionally done, but she is no longer available to help me. I only do basic content updates to my website.

The website I’m trying to edit is an old site and the core url has been redirected to another site. But specific pages still comes up high on a on google search and the page format is all screwed up.

    Here’s a direct page access.

My plan was to unpublish the pages, but when I logged into wp, the wp navigation bar comes up, but I get a blank screen for everything … no dashboard, no pages … just a white screen.

Bottomline would like to do one of three things AND I do want to get editor access–it still has great content in/on it.

    1. Fix the page formatting so when someone does get direct page access it at least looks good.
    2. Unpublish the pages so when it comes up on google…it doesn’t show up and goes to a 404?
    3. Get it off of google???

    Thank you in advance…

  • Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.

Thanks. When I was going to (remember I don’t have a pro helping anymore-ugh). But I guess I should do it anyway…but I’m scared that I’ll lose it all??? Sorry for my ignorance…thanks.

it gave me these warnings and I’m not sure how to go about it.
    Step 1:

Deactivate any special plugins or modules.

Some plugins and modules can interfere with the upgrade process, potentially breaking your website. You can do this from within the administration panel for each website you plan to upgrade.

    Step 2:

Create a full backup (Highly Recommended)

During this process, we’ll create a barebones backup of any files that will be affected in case you need to roll back any changes made. This DOES NOT substitute for a full backup, and we highly recommend performing a full backup of your own prior to upgrading below. IMPORTANT: If your database is over 65 megs, the likelihood of a server timeout during the upgrade is high, so we will not create a database backup. In the event you need to restore, you may experience problems which require you to have a full database backup!

    1. Deactivate all plugins.
    2. Switch to the default Twenty Twelve theme
    3. Back up your database.
    4. Run the upgrade via Dashboard – Upgrade.

Thanks…Sorry, but how do I deactivate all plugins if I can’t get to the dashboard…white screen?

or backup my database…wp log in goes to a white/blank screen.

    Sorry. Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

Then backup the site’s database using whatever database management tools your host provides and run the upgrade manually via http://www.imagconnects.com/mission/wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Wow…thanks alot.

Your fast support is awesome. I will get someone with more experience to do this so I don’t screw it up. Will come back let you guys know the status…hopefully I get it done this evening…Hawaii time. Again, Thank you!

In the mean time and for a temporary fix until I can get the white/blank screen problem taken care of, I did go into my host account and redirect the specific page that was coming up in google to the new site and it worked.

    See you later.

No probs. Let us know how you get on. 🙂
