"Unable to locate WordPress Plugin directory" (--It's right there!) (3 posts)

I am installing WP for the first time on a new site and knew to check whether I had access to add-ons as it has given me trouble before.
Everything goes smoothly until I try to get rid of "Hello, Dolly" (or add another extension): when I do this, I end up with an error screen that says:

"Plugin could not be deleted due to an error: Unable to locate WordPress Plugin directory."

I have deleted the installation three times, starting fresh with a new database, and nothing seems to fix it. I tried installing manually twice and with my host's auto-installer (Fantastico de Luxe) once. I have updated permissions on WP-content folder, plugins folder, WP-settings.php and even hello.php...and still no dice.

    Can anyone solve this one?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same problem with an otherwise flawless install on my local Xampp server in Ubuntu. Tried dropping tables and fresh installs too.
Then tried installing 2.7. Same issue.
Everything else...posts, pages, uploads seem to work fine.

Hello Dolly activates and operates, but I cannot delete it:"Unable to locate WordPress Plugin directory" error.
The plugin php files are visible in Editor.
When I try to install new plug-ins from the dashboard I get the same
"Unable to locate WordPress Plugin directory" error.

When I download a plugin externally, and extract it into the plugin folder myself. It shows up, I can activate it, and it works.

However, this is not really a solution as the "Unable to locate WordPress Plugin directory" rears it's ugly head again when you need to upgrade the plug-in.

    I'm stumped!

    Hi

Im having this same problems, there doesn't seem to be a solution.
I had a perfect working version of wp 2.9 and I tried to install a polling plugin then it started saying Unable to locate WordPress Plugin directory" error.

I check the server and the plugin folder is 100% there.
