    Can you be more clear about what your problem is? Your title references being unable to find \wp-content, but your OP references a problem with a function.

    "OP" = "original post".

    You're trying to update WordPress automatically, or you're trying to update a Theme/Plugin?

    Here's one potential fix.

    No; it's a server configuration issue.

    What error is output?

    You may need to set:

    define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );

    in wp-config.php in order to see the error message.

    I think you're better off using the official WordPress constants to fix the "Unable to locate WordPress Content directory" problem. See the documentation here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#WordPress_Upgrade_Constants

    These two lines fixed the problem for me, but you can try some of the other settings to see if they help you:
    define('FS_METHOD', 'ftpsockets');
    define('FTP_BASE', '/public/www/');

    Simoneast- I'm having same problem. I'd like to define the path for wp-content folder in my config file. where do i add the code you suggested?

    Oh sorry, they go in wp-config.php. I don't think it really matters where, just look for some similar lines that are also calling define().

    So if I define the path of the wp-content folder by adding define code in the wp-config file, then that will resolve the issue i'm having with wp not recognizing my themes, plugins, and uploads folders?
