• I’m sure I’m missing something obvious so forgive me, I’m still new to this.

I created my database, changed my wp-config file, and then uploaded the wordpress folder into a new directory that I placed into the html folder. (I’m using filezilla) I tried finding a public_html but couldn’t find anything, so I’m assuming my root directory is the html folder. I found the index.html file in a “stats” folder, but it won’t let me delete it, it says permission denied.

Does anyone know where I went wrong?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • If you installing wordpress in a folder in html folder then there should not be index.html file in the folder all you need to do is run the install program after you have uploaded your wordpress files and folders.

Thank you for the prompt response!

I managed to move things around but now I get this: “Can’t select database”. Why would it be giving me this?

Go daddy use a url instead of localhost so check your database you will find Db_Host url use that in your wp-config.php

I plugged in the url to the wp-config file, but for some reason it’s still giving me the “Can’t select database” message. I double checked the username and password and made sure everything was plugged in correctly. Any other reason it would be giving me this message?

You will need double check as extra space will not work

    Howdy,

    1) When you access the Hosting Control FTP File Manager in your Go Daddy (GD) account, notice on the left pane, where the folders are … what is the name of the top-most folder, under which are all the other ones? …. why, it’s called ‘hmtl’ 🙂 Click on this folder and then in the right pane, that is the root of your hosting account and where your WP files should go.

    2) To get the Host Name of your database:
    – at the Hosting Control, from the Databases tab, select MySQL
    – click the Pencil in the Action column in the row for your database
    – this will open the Database Detail page where you will find the Host Name for that particular database; copy this value (no spaces before or after) and paste this into your wp-config file for this value, making sure the other database values are the same as what was displayed on the Database Details page 🙂

    Cheers!

    ataleb52,

2ninerniner2’s info is all correct and would help with a manual install of WordPress to your Go Daddy hosting account. However, I wanted to point out that there’s also a quick-install option that would make this whole process much easier for you.
We have a tool called Hosting Connection that is used to install and manage one or more of many different popular applications. This help article will show you how to get there and initiate the install – http://x.co/YJpH
*During the install, you will be asked what folder the app should be installed to. The default is ‘/wordpress’… if you want it installed in the root, be sure to make this blank or leave just the ‘/’.

It’s solved! Thank you all so much for the help, I greatly appreciate it!

ataleb52, Go Daddy beat me here, LOL…

I cheated, I had a Go Daddy customer service rep walk me through it.

He waited while I made notes about what I did & clicked on, and there were only 6 or 8 short ones. It took mere minutes.

The next time I can do it myself.

Go Daddy is the absolute best for help in uploading popular website software, they helped me twice already with SMF, then WP.
