  • I got the same error when trying to restore a site.

    Please help.

I am having the exact same error here. Cloning from my localhost to a fresh wordpress site. The clone url entered in the new site simply gives me the error:

“The plugin encountered an error while extracting the zip file using WP’s zip file extractor, the following error message was returned:
    Error Message : Incompatible Archive.

Temporary files created in /home/public_html/Hotel/wp-content/wpclone-temp will be deleted.”

    Help!

I also gave the alternate ZIP method a shot and it fails as well:

“The plugin encountered an error while extracting the zip file using the PclZip library, the following error message was returned:
Error Message : PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

Temporary files created in /home/public_html/Hotel/wp-content/wpclone-temp will be deleted.”

Can’t seem to get this plugin to work.

I was able to resolve this problem by going into public_html/wp-content/uploads/wp-clone on my server and deleting all entries. The amount of space used by the backups that I deleted totaled just under 52 gig.

I have no idea what created this problem but the solution stated above has worked and the problem has not manifested itself again.

I firmly believe that WP Clone is the absolute best product for easily backing up your WordPress websites.

    Hi Boris,

Thank you for posting your solution. Could you be more specific?

Basically you deleted all files in public_html/wp-content/uploads/wp-clone of the NEW website?
And then run the WP Clone on the NEW website from WP-Admin?
Did you refer the backup file from the OLD website? or you upload it to the NEW one?

    I appreciate your help.

    Thanks

    It’s Boricua21 not Borris.

I didn’t mention new vs old website.

Wherever your initiating your WP Clone backup from. Go to the wp-clone directory and delete all the entries there.

Now you create a new WP Clone backup and then you can restore to wherever you please.

Hi Boricua21, I apologize for mistyped your name.

Thank you for the clarification. I will try that method.
    I appreciate your help.

Just in case anyone is still trying to find a solution to this, I’m posting this because boricua21’s solution didn’t work for me. Or at least I didn’t understand it, so if this is a repeat of the same info, I apologize.

I was trying to set up a testing site so I could develop on the server in a sub folder, as well as have the site live…

I kept getting the same type of error:
Temporary files created in /home/public_html/Hotel/wp-content/wpclone-temp will be deleted.”

This is what I did to fix it:

    1. Create a backup in the existing (Live) site.
    2. Download the created .zip file to computer (I did this through FTP because I got Internal Service Errors when trying to go directly to the URL). This can be found in http://www.sitename.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-clone.
    3. Now take .zip file and upload it to the “testing” site or subfolder site in the same location. (www.sitename.com/subfolder/wp-content/uploads/wp-clone)
    4. Go to testing site and select “Restore from URL” under WP-Clone options. Input the ORIGINAL URL from the live site.

For whatever reason, this is the only thing that worked for me. I tried a lot of different solutions – hopefully this will help some people if for some reason other solutions don’t work.
    Good luck!

eli0086, thanks that worked for me using GoDaddy. I just copied and pasted the zip file in their file manager.

is downloading the zip file on to your testing environment’s file manager suppose to take like 5 hours?

Hi, I encountered these same problems earlier in the week but was able to work around them using Eli0086’s method. Now that doesn’t work either. I’ve successfully created and installed a clone into my development space. The clone makes backups but I can’t restore into my destination URL.

I even downloaded all the destination URL’s wp-clone backups from /uploads/wp-clone then deleted them from the server as Boricua21 mentioned but that didn’t work either.

    The latest error message is

The plugin encountered an error while extracting the zip file using WP’s zip file extractor, the following error message was returned:
    Error Message : Incompatible Archive.

Temporary files created in /home1/xxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxx/wp-content/wpclone-temp will be deleted.

WP-Clone developers, I LOVE this plugin…please fix it!

@anmaree.annarbortees nope, but if you’re doing this on your computer,it’s best to download the file beforehand and follow eli0086’s guide above. (it doesn’t really matter what URL you enter as long as the file name is correct. the plugin first looks in the local backup folder to see if there’s a matching file)

@imaginethatcreative did you get that incompatible archive error even after manually uploading the file?

@wp Academy, yes, I kept getting the same error, even after manually uploading the file.

Ultimately the webhost had to manually clone and move the site for me.

The same Error Message : Incompatible Archive. struck me also and put me in a bad situation. I tested it first with two unimportant sites and it worked fine. I then set up two clients sites on a the same server as my test sites, redirected the domain names to the new server and then both files failed. What I thought would only take 20 minutes or less to move both sites wound up taking me 8 hours. Mainly because I was not prepared for the failure.

I am back and I feel like an idiot. The problem stemmed from me clicking on the link in WP Clone (after the backup was created) and downloaded it to my computer from there.

The fix was to simple go to the site via ftp and download the zip file to my computer.

Sorry to have jumped the gun. Maybe this will help someone else who might make the same mistake.
