There was a post on this same issue earlier so I suspect this is not isolated. I am under the impression that an update broke something however I can’t figure out what.

While in the post menu if you select any post and go into edit it the text area is blank. When you type in text it does not display anything. However you can highlight it by clicking and dragging which selects the text and it will underline any misspellings. It looks like the text it is displaying is in the text view as opposed to the normal view tab. When I highlight it it is in html code as opposed to how it will be displayed.

The tool bar above is missing however I was able to get the add media button to come back by deactivating and reactivating all the plugins. I have tried switching back to the default theme and I have replaced the post.php and edit.php files in the FTP folder. When that did not work I replaced the entire folder from the alternate working blog.

I did delete the folder first and then copy paste. The other blog uses the same version of wordpress and the same plugins. However there’s no change on the edit area. It’s very odd one blog is working and the other is not and I am not aware of a difference between then.

Site in question is http://www.carriessweetlife.com Her personal blog http://www.carriessweetlife.com/sweetlife is working fine in the admin post and edit area. The next thing that I can think of is to download a fresh version of wordpress and try to upload that but I can’t see that making a difference yet. I am willing to try anything though that might fix it. I could download an older version of wordpress and roll it back. She tells me it has not been working for at least 3-4 weeks.

    Thank you for any help

    what theme are using?

    Try:
    – switching to the UNEDITED default theme (Twenty Fourteen) for moment to rule out any theme specific issue.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

I did try deactivating all the plugins and switching to the default theme. I can do that again and try to reset the plugin folder at the same time. I am thinking of trying to do a full manual reinstall/upgrade if that does not work.

Oh, current theme is Thesis theme 1.8

I just deactivated all plugins, changed the theme to the default and logged into the FTP and renamed the plugin folder.

No change, still the same issue in editing posts and adding new posts with no toolbar and text being invisible and showing in html view. I may try doing the manual install. I am pretty sure it is an issue with a file.

    – Check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

Ok issue fixed. From a clean download of wordpress I deleted and replaced both the wp-admin folder and the wp-include folder. I had already done the admin folder so I suspect the issue is a file in the includes folder not being overwritten correctly from a recent upgrade. Same issue was found in the forum over a year ago so I am sure it is a common occurrence. Thanks for the help.
