Since updating to WP 3.9 I am getting issues with Posts. All plugins are updated, and the theme has been successfully updated.

Unable to do any inline editing in Posts. The result on Quick Edit mouse-over (edit this inline item): Result ‘client-domain.org/wp-admin/edit.php#’ Unable to do any inline editing. Those hashtags bother me.

    In Posts Edit:

    • Adding Featured Image: Result I get what looks like a previous version of WordPress with three options for adding media files: From Computer; From URL, and Media Library.
    • Media Library appears ttruncated version with a thumbnail, name of file and ‘Show’. If I choose a media file and ‘Use As Featured Image’ unable to return to the Post page I am editing without backspacing.
    • If I ‘Insert in Post’ I reach a blank page.
    • Unable to edit any of the ‘Publish’ sections: Status, Visibility, Revisions, or the date/time.
    • Screen Options won’t open: Result ‘http://northlakeuu.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=2050&action=edit#screen-options-wrap’ – another weird hashtag here.
    • Unable to add any Tags from Admin Screen but I can add tags through the Post and Tags panel.
    • Unable to add any links, but most of the other edit buttons do work.

All other admin functions, such as Pages, Testimonials, Porfolio, et al, have no issues.
    I’ve run several tests:

    • De-activated all the plugins and activated one by one while purging cache (no difference)
    • Done a new install of the theme on a sub-domain. I get the same issues on the client’s hosting service, who do the WP install on a developer service.
    • I have contacted the theme designer (they believe this is a host issue)
    • I did another install on another host service and it was clean with no Post issues.
    • I’ve contacted the hosting service for the client but they have not come back with any helpful response since July.

I do not believe this is a theme issue, or a WordPress issue. I contacted the host about File Permissions possibly causing an issue but the host didn’t respond. I would love to get some help from an expert on this. Even if it is to ask the host some questions.

    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Have you tried installing a fresh set of 3.9.2 files ?

    Delete wp-includes, wp-admin
    Keep wp-content
For base directory keep wp-config.php, and delete the other wp files there.

    Then install the fresh files.

Thank you Ross for the advice. Pressable suggested they would re-install WP (except as you say the wp-content, extra folders and the config file). If they don’t get to it over the weekend I’m going to run a clone site and do it myself. At least it’s another point to knock off the list.

    Is this solved StephInSeattle ?

After testing my theme on another hosting service the problem no longer existed. I reported the issue several times to the hosting service. I recognized that they had two versions of my wp-content files so were investigating the issue but not discovering what was causing this.

It was not a file permissions issue but more than likely some security plug that was interfering with the theme. Their support people could not discover the cause. This hosting service had scores of DDOS attacks and several of my client sites were down for days.

With all these extra wp-config files all over the place I had one difficult time moving the sites to another host.

My No.! rule is to ensure that all my clients can work confidently and independently, and that I only have to intervene if they are looking to expand their site, etc. This was an infuriating experience.

I am very happy with the new hosting service and now get great support where needed which is rare. There was nothing wrong with the theme.

    I’m glad for hear that.
