Unable to access my admin login (9 posts)

After establishing my domain (ridethestorms.com) with BlueHost a few days ago on my Mac Powerbook G4 (10.5.8), I installed WordPress to create the 3-page website for my new book. Everything went smoothly, as I established a new password, repeatedly accessed the site, used the preview windows and set up the required links. But after selecting the "publish" tabs for my pages, I can no longer access my admin login to make further adjustments to correct some defects.

Whenever I enter ridethestorms.com/wp-admin in my browser, I'm immediately forwarded to the defective website -- NOT to the admin site where I can make any of the needed editorial corrections.

How can I either access the admin login page, create a secondary website under my existing domain, or delete the defective website and start over again?

Try to log in here, http://www.ridethestorms.com/wp-login.php

You have your links messed up. For example here is one page http://www.ridethestorms.com/30-2/#content but the link reads http://www.ridethestorms.com/#content

Your style sheet is supposed to be here http://www.ridethestorms.com/30-2/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/style.css according to your source code but is in fact here http://www.ridethestorms.com/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/style.css

Thanks for your prompt response. When I entered http://www.ridethestorms.com/wp-login.php , I was brought directly to a login page for Ride The Storms. However, whether I entered the user name of "ridethestorms.com/wp-admin" OR entered "admin" (and then I entered my password), I was taken immediately to my defective website rather than to the admin site.

I would like to correct my links, but I still can't access the admin site where I can edit the settings and links.

    See http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

Since you have wp installed here, http://www.ridethestorms.com yet your site url is http://www.ridethestorms.com/30-2/ I think you have the wrong address under settings, general. The above gives you options to correct this without signing in.

As someone with two doctoral degrees (including on in biophysics), I must say how embarrassed I am to be so ignorant of the codex language and the steps suggested in the http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL section. Thank you for your patience with someone who's an experienced end-user but a total dummy in the underlying computer language and structure.

I think that I made the mistake of changing the site url to the one that ended with /30-2/ because I thought that would bring the website reader directly to my new website's home page (which had been assigned that specific address).

Could you please dummy-walk me through the required steps, or perhaps take the initiative of making that url site correctionon my behalf (if no sign-in password is required). I'm really a generally competent guy, but I need some help here.

Don't feel bad, I have the same problem. I called godaddy tech support and they tried to help me by pin pointing the file and they were not much help. But they did send me info on how to delete all my files so that I could start over. I will try that and let you know if it works. I hate to lose the work, but I hate wasting time more. All I wanted to do was redirect my landing page, put I had great difficulty with doing that. Good luck...

or perhaps take the initiative of making that url site correctionon my behalf

wordpress.org has no direct connection to your site, so we cannot log into anyone's site and make changes. You have to do these things yourself. Of, if it comes to the worst, hire someone to carry out the work for you. See Changing_The_Site_URL & pick one of the 4 possible solutions and follow the steps carefully.

Thanks, I think we are both aware of this, as we are participating on this forum for assistance. We also were already given the link to change your site URL and that is what helped me. I was able to go into my hosing account and add those links to my files and it fixed the problem. Thanks.

Thanks to you folks for your advice. I've decided that it was simpler to reload the WordPress program and just overwrite the prior installation. I copy/saved my prior work, so it should be a relatively simple piece of work for me now. Live and learn.
