Since version 3.0 and upwards of WordPress I am unable to login to the admin area once I have setup the database and successfully connected to it. Versions 2.9 and down I have no problem but from version 3 and upwards when I try to login I get a 500 Internal Server error.

When I looked in the error logs in Cpanel it just says page not found.

I have tried everything in the help page at: http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble

I am using PHP 5.2.9 and MySQL 5.0.91

The error log is saying the wp-login.php file does not exist, can anyone help or has had the same problem?

the wp-login.php file does not exist

If you did the auto-upgrade, re-upload latest WP via FTP and cPanel

It's a brand new site so I am trying to load the latest 3.0.3 version from scratch.

I tried uploading the old 2.9 version just to see if it worked and it did!

I then thought I would try the auto upgrade from version 2.9 but when I click on the auto upgrade button nothing happened at all!

Something in the backend login of versions 3+ has been completely re-configured to work a different way and obviously works for some people but not others.

My server and php software all adhere to WP's requirements but I just cannot get it to work!

    Can anybody help me?

    Thanks

did you disable all plugins before upgrading? Try a manual upgrade with ftp

If you allready upgraded to 3.0 and have problems try:

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    - switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Hi, I have already loaded version 3.0.3

    Firstly I went into php myadmin as you suggested but the option_value field was already set to: a:0:{}

So then I tried hiding the plugins folder and uploading an empty one as per the instructions but that still didn't work.

Option 3, well I am already using the default theme

This is really strange, they have really upset something when moving from versions 2 to 3 but I cannot figure out what!!!

Any suggestions greatly appreciated as without accessing the backend admin area WordPress is pretty pointless!

    Thanks
