I inserted the complete URL to a JPG file in Add an Image->From URL. A green checkmark was displayed.
Then I clicked Link to image & then Insert into Post.
The result: Nothing happened!
But if it's a PNG file then it's inserted in my post!
So what's wrong with a JPG file? In fact, I can insert JPG files from Media Library.

alchymyth, the capitalisation is OK!
Since this is an internal matter I do not think a link to my site will be helpful.
Btw, the format for my images(.jpg & .png) is image/x-generic.
If the volunteer who is trying to help you asks for additional information (such as a site url), it usually pays to oblige. People do not ask for such details without good reason.
