   I've installed mysql, apache2 and wp on an ubuntu 8.10 computer, and mysql and apache2 report as healthy. I can log into the local wp-admin, but when I try to visit "my site", firefox tries to download a .part file and reports an error. Has anyone else experienced this problem? File permissions for /var/www/wordpress/* are set to r/w/e for the mysql and wordpress user. Thanks in advance for any assistance! kk

   what's the file trying to download and what does the error say?

   With firefox, i try to go to http://127.0.0.1/wordpress. The page stays blank, but a new tab opens with the address file:///tmp/zXtoQva_.phtml-1.part and the download of that file begins. The file changes every time, but always ends with .part. This leads me to believe that I didn't uncompress it correctly. When I uncompressed the wordpress archive, I moved it to /var/www and ran "sudo tar -xzvf wordpress-2.7.1.tar.gz". firefox properly displays the following: http://127.0.0.1/wordpress/wp-admin/admin and I can log on okay.
