Is it possible to run two copies of WP, one under the domain, the other under/2nd name? Will they play nicely together if neither is busy?

I have run into problems in the past where I have a root install of WP and then a further install in a subdirectory.

However where both are in separate subdirectories, I have had no problems. So for example I have a subdirectory on my site called "demo" and in that I have individual directories for each of my wordpress theme designs with a WP install in each, each running from the same database but using separate tables.

The issues is installing the version in a subdirectory second, because wordpress sees the wp-config file one level up. if you move the wp-config.php of your first site one level up. i.e. home if your domain goes to home/public_html/

Though what you are asking for can be accomplished by turning multisite on with sub directories with just the install on the root of your site.
