Despite using firebug, looking at #access in twentyeleven theme I seem not to be able to find out where and how to change the menu bars color in the twentytwelve theme.
I have been able to change hover color and the color of the upper and bottom border but not the color of the menu bar.
Where should I look?
Some changes resulted in a faulty mobile phone display of the site so I hesitate...
Do not edit the Twenty Twelve theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes. Or use a custom CSS plugin.

Thx esmi, already did that
Provide a link to your website please.
Hint: try looking at nav.main-navigation.

I tried out Esmi's selectors and they worked [screenshot].
Try that.

Tried the Chrome tool instead of the Firebug tool and found what you showed Andrew.
Just one thing. How did you activate the inspector-stylesheet 1?
Mine does not show it, checked all options but non worked
I made a new style using the + (addition) symbol on the top of the CSS sidebar of the Styles.

Oops, can you check ..
Did something there with the addition + and now have two new inspector stylesheets that don't go away.
Maybe I should have asked before.. I hope changes made there do not affect the original stylesheet?
So what's the exact purpose of this functionality where you can add style on the fly?
Not been able to change menu bar color :0) ...yet
It sounds as though you need the level of support provided by CSS-specific forums http://csscreator.com/forum .
