strange that in new theme twentythirteen featured images are scaled to maximum 360 px wide. would be best it that was 600 px like the width of the paragraph.

I'm using 800 px featured images but these are changed to 360 when I would use the new theme.

Try resetting the image sizes in Media settings (dashboard > Media) and see if it changes image sizes. Better upload a new image, as previously uploaded images may not change sizes.

    Hi Marco,
That doesn't sound right, images in posts should be 604 px and 724 px on attachment pages. Do you have plugins running, or any other theme modifications?

Oh—you said featured images. They are set to 604 px wide, also.

Could you share a URL for us to look at?

sorry, can't change the theme because it looks bad. I'm using 800 px featured images on the posts here: http://marcoraaphorst.nl

    no image changing plugin.

It's possible that older images don't have the "cropped" version of each image, which as Krishna mentioned would existing only for newer themes you upload after changing themes.

You can use a plugin like Regenerate Thumbnails to do this automatically for older images (after switching to Twenty Thirteen): http://www.viper007bond.com/wordpress-plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

You can also use a service like Photon, via Jetpack plugin, that resize images dynamically so you don't need to redo any thumbnails: http://jetpack.me/support/photon/
