Twentyten-Child New Position Sidebar?
-
Hello Friends,
I am using a Child of the TwentyTen theme I made. On my Post (Sample-Page) I am trying to position the #Primary / #Secondary sidebar to the left and up so it will actually sit in the page. But I cannot seem to do this. Also, on this page, it seems to be getting cut off on the right side.
I have been concentrating my efforts in the (child)-style.css file. If anyone has any idea’s how I might accomplish this, or a tutorial, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
David

can you post a link to your site to illustrate the problem?
if you are talking about a page template, then this might be related: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/28044/duplicate-and-alter-sidebar-for-twenty-eleven/28073#28073
if you are talking about a single post, then check this: http://www.transformationpowertools.com/wordpress/twenty-eleven-sidebar-on-single-posts-and-pages
Hello Alchymyth,
Many thanks for your reply. I will definitely look at the links you have suggested.
A link to my page is: http://andbussol.com/SMK/available-dogs/
Thank you again, I very much appreciate your help!
my bad – please ignore the links – they are for Twenty Eleven – i misread your post 🙁
you have some odd content in the post/page, starting with:
<link href="http://andbussol.com/SMK/wp-content/themes/twentyten-child/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head><br /> <body bgcolor="#D6E3E9"></p> <div class="container"> ... ...
link tags, body tags, head tags, etc are not allowed in the content.
this seems to break the display in the browsers.
validation report: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fandbussol.com%2FSMK%2Favailable-dogs%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
try to fix as many errors as possible: http://codex.wordpress.org/Validating_a_Website
(the home page has similar errors http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fandbussol.com%2FSMK%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0 although the browsers seem to be able to display it)
can you possibly try to describe what you are trying to achieve, so that someone might be able to make some suggestions?
Hello again Alchymyth,
Thank you for the Validation links. I will use them and try to clean up my code.
What I am trying to accomplish is to position the #Primary / #Secondary sidebar (currently sitting below the page) to the left and up so it will actually sit in the page.
http://andbussol.com/SMK/available-dogs/I will clean up the code as you suggest, but if I can find out how to position that Sidebar as I mentioned, that would be a huge, huge help.
Many thanks again for your help and suggestions. They are all VERY much appreciated indeed!
unfortunately, the way how your site is configured at the moment, i.e. with the page content taking over the design of the page, i don’t see any possibility to get the sidebar into any suitable position.
for instance, the newly introduced .container style (or more or less all styles in main.css) defines the width and background of the whole page;
for the original sidebar(s) to work in the theme, there has to be a separation between page content and structure.
the structure has to come from the theme;
you could build pages without sidebar using the ‘one-column, no sidebar’ page template, and adapting the style to fill the page width;
or create new page-templates http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages; etc.
