How, exactly, did you add that header image/
first, do not edit the default theme Twenty Twelve directly, but create a child theme to do the customisations with; http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes
the theme has various paddings and margins, which you will need to adapt.
please try working with a browser inspection tool to find out where the spaces to the left and above the header images come from.

Hi guys,
Thanks for letting me know about the child theme, I have created the childtheme and it works 100%.
I have no experience with a browser inspection tool, so any input would be truly valued.
most modern browsers have this ‘inspect element’ function on ‘right-click’ on an element in your browser;
Firefox for instance also has ‘Firebug’ and the ‘web developer add-on’
there might be instructions for those tools in the linked sites…
I would like the image to fill the entire header and make the white space above the image and to the left of the image disappear.
I look forward to your ideas as I don’t know how to solve the issue.
Depending upon how much tweaking you want to do and how closely you want your site to look the same across a broad range of devices and browsers, Twenty Twelve can be quite challenging. So, have plenty of patience and perseverance at hand while checking your site in more than one browser on one machine.

Hi again,
Thanks for your input – I have found a solution that works on many platforms and I will stick with that for now until I get a better understanding of worpress 🙂
THANKS A LOT
