    Hi,

    I have been trying to create a child theme so that I can insert a logo.

    I have followed the WordPress instructions on how to make a child theme and created a style sheet using the following:

    /*
    Theme Name: Twenty Twelve Child
    Theme URI: http://www.claudiajones.org.uk/
    Description: Child theme for the Twenty Twelve theme
    Author: Lorna
    Author URI: http://example.com/about/
    Template: twentytwelve
    Version: 0.1.0
    */
    @import url("../twentytwelve/style.css");

    I have created child theme directory and a file called style.css and uploaded this to the themes folder.

    Unfortunately I received the following message:

    Broken Themes

    "The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
    twenty twelve-child Stylesheet is missing."

    Do I have to upload another stylesheet? If so, where does this need to go?

    I am a total novice so many thanks for any advice.

    Did you create the style.css file using a plain text editor?

    I copied the following into Notepad ++:

    /*
    Theme Name: Twenty Twelve Child
    Theme URI: http://www.claudiajones.org.uk/
    Description: Child theme for the Twenty Twelve theme
    Author: Lorna
    Author URI: http://example.com/about/
    Template: twentytwelve
    Version: 0.1.0
    */
    @import url("../twentytwelve/style.css");

    What is the name on the child theme folder? If you have spaces, take those out.

    The name on the folder is "twentytwelve-child". No spaces.

    Is your file structure correct?

    wp-content
        themes
            twentytwelve
            twentytwelve-child
                style.css (new file you made)

    Yes. The file structure is correct.

    I don't know whether this makes any difference, but the new style.css file that I made is a text file saved in notepad.

    If you used Notepad it is possible it added .txt to the end of your file and Windows has it hidden... try this... open the folder where you saved your style.css, go to tools->folder options and select the "view" tab. Then uncheck "hide extensions for known filetypes" and then click "ok". If my suspicion is correct, your style.css will become style.css.txt... just rename it to drop the .txt and you'll be fine unless there's another problem somewhere.

    The file needs to be "style.css" and not "style.txt";
