    i'm trying to put an over-sized header on a webpage that has a gif background image with an animation set in the middle. each of the other pages are to use a standard header. although i have designed other wp (and html) websites, i feel somewhat over my head with this desired combination.
    i'm doing my changes with child sheets and a test page that i'm trying it on, and will switch that to "home" when "test" page proves itself.
    any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. what i've read and tried has gotten me no where.

    Hello,

    Since you already have a child theme built.

    Best thing to do is make a home.php and that will take over as the home page template. Style that one the way you wish and it will stay different the the rest of the pages that use page.php

    Another method would be to make a static home page using something like template-home.php

    Then this in the top of the file

    <?php
    /*
    Template Name: Home Template
    */
    ?>

    and then setting that page to use that template page.

    thanks, Digest WP.
    i hadn't thought of that, but it would help keep things tidy.
    creating the home.php does not alleviate the need for the header.php and the style.css to be changed.. that all needs to be done regardless. this just makes it easier for wp to do its job and me mine, am i right?

    Hello,

    Yes exactly. It would require header-home.php and footer-home.php or something of that nature.

    Then includes to those files in the home template. Really not too much work and the best way to do it.

    Hope it helps.
