Argh! I *think* I might like the Parker theme for a nonprofit client, but there’s no documentation for things like how to create a Featured post, et al. Also, choosing Full Width Page from the Page Templates doesn’t seem to do anything different than Default.

I usually prefer to start clients, particularly nonprofits, with very thin wallets with a base default WP theme and make any minor changes as a child based on that theme, if absolutely necessary. But it’s extremely difficult to determine if this theme would work for them — especially given their lack of technical savvy and basic fear of maintaining their own website — without some kind of documentation, either in the administration or elsewhere, on how to use the themes capabilities.

Anyone know where I can find out how to make “featured” content in Twenty Fourteen/Parker? And have a front page that resembles something like the theme icon?

    Jetpack Mechanic 🚀

Thank you all for the reports.

Deactivating and reactivating Jetpack should indeed work, but we’re working on a better fix.
I’ll post again here as soon as I have some news.

    Great thanks, Jeremy.

Disabling and re-enabling Jetpack does not fix the problem for me.

    Mine stopped working last night.

After regenerating the thumbnails it doesn’t work anymore.

Mine never worked. Adding comment to get follow-up comments for fix info.

After having Jetpack disabled for a couple days, I enabled it this afternoon and now my featured content is working. Anyone else experiencing a cure?

All I did to get mine working was set featured images for the desired posts, run the Thumbnail Regenerate plugin, open customize, change “featured” to another tag, then saved, then changed it back to “featured” and it worked.

Hmmm, that makes me think then that what did the trick for me was that I added a new blog post, tagged it ‘featured’ and then removed the featured tag from one of the other posts.

Had the same problem with featured posts not appearing. Then disabled and deleted Jetpack. Then re-installed and re-activated Jetpack. Then renamed the “featured” tags. Now… featured posts appear on the home page as they should, BUT there’s a new problem: no content below the featured posts grid. It just says “Nothing Found” where my latest posts should appear.

I had to de-activate jetpack in order to show features properly. If I have it activated it doesn’t show features correctly. here are more details.

    1. fresh install of wordpress 3.8.
    2. created 3 posts and created and assigned featured tag to all 3.
    3. go to appearance > customize > Featured Content. In the drop down I only see Layout with the drop down for Grid or Slider.
I DO NOT SEE Tag Name field in this area.
    4. After I de-activated jetpack plugin and go back to step 3, I finally saw the Tag Name field and the Home Page is now displaying properly.

What is jetpack plugin and why is it activated by default? Do I need it? I’m in a dilemma because if its activated, it breaks the features section on home page. help and thanks!

It adds a lot of extra functionality to WordPress:

    http://jetpack.me/

After re-installing 3.8, then de-activating, deleting, re-installing, then re-activating Jetpack, the featured posts decided not to appear again. It’s pretty clear that there is something in Jetpack that is breaking the featured posts function in Parker. I’ll wait for an update to the plugin and/or theme.

We’ll post here again when we have the Jetpack fix ready.

Actually got it to work, but only after a rigorous game of deactivating, deleting, re-installing, re-activating, etc. But for the benefit of the uninitiated user or novice, it is clear that something does need to be fixed. Thanks!
