    Hello!

I'd like to remove some of my uploaded header images. I've deleted the images from my wp-content/upload folder. The backend still shows me the broken pictures. And the random function does as well.

Does anybody know a solution for this?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

    bosch_hh

I have the same problem and would like to know how to remove a single uploaded header image.

I've got it: Just remove the images from your WP-Backend unter "Media". They are still there after removing them via FTP. That's it.

I tried that and it did remove the uploaded header images. However, it did not remove the click circles that had been associated with each of the deleted images.

So, when I tell it to use random images among the images that I did not delete, sometimes it shows no header image at all because it "thinks" there should still be an image where the deleted ones were.

me too had same problem ...
i think keeping default header images is a must not to get a bug later .
i went to Cpanel then to file manager -choose root document and click
wp-content ..then pick the uploads file and select and delete .it worked fine with me .

Yes, my hosting account gives me access to Cpanel. I also have FTP access to the files. I see an uploads directory but no uploads file.

Hi NoDeity ...looks like same here .

In Cpanel scroll down to Files and click Legacy File manager , pop up window will open , it will show 4 options, click Document root and then it will take you to a page where you can select wp-content .
Click wp-content and then click UPLOADS ...then check 2011 file .
i am sure you know this ....

Yes, that's the uploads directory. I don't mean to be rude and I'm sorry if I come off as fussy about this but I think it's important to recognize the difference between a file and a directory.

Does that remove the unwanted click circles in the Twenty Eleven Header page in Dashboard under Appearance?

I was looking for a solution to the same problem...it seems that there is some cached image somewhere, in fact after deleting my pics still get thumbs in my gallery.

so following your discussion i deleted the pics i didnt want any more and i uploaded some new ones with...the same name of the previous ones! so it follows the same pattern but with different picture!

this simple hack seems to work so far for me.

Yes, I did that too. Unfortunately, I no longer can recall the name of one of the images I deleted.

I too was thinking that there must be a cache somewhere so I installed the "WP Cache Inspect" plugin. Unfortunately, using that to clear the cache didn't do the job.

Thanks a lot to bosch_hh and alchymyth
(u'll find alchymyth's post in another topic)
i was looking media under Settings & couldn't find anything relevant ..stupid me .
On the WP Dashboard its on the Top ..Click Media and click library thats where I found all the images .
I delete and now all the click circles are also gone .
I am staring afresh now !
Thanks a lot for the tips !

ignore that message; that does not apply to your problem.
you should be able to follow the suggestion by @bosch_hh:

Just remove the images from your WP-Backend unter "Media".

Wow! This is crazy! WordPress, get your act together. After reading many posts and coming across this one, its CLEAR your software UI is flawed.

Untold number of man hours spent on this thing not just in this post but in the many others I have been reading before it. YIKES! Lucky your software is free.

Thanks to all those that forged forward to find this option. But clearly should be an option where its expected too... in the Header Image section. Major UI design flaw... the kid with his name next to that credit deserves it.

It has nothing to do with the UI. It's a theme issue.

It is a theme issue. But this is the WP theme. You would think they could have added these options, which happens to appear in the UI. So your half right... its not the UI on its own that's the problem... its the person that created the official WP theme that didn't insert the option in the UI.

    Why?
