[resolved] Twenty Eleven Child Theme -- Removing All References to Categories? (5 posts)

    I'm trying to expunge all mentions of categories from Twenty Eleven in my child theme. I expected this to be a common sort of request but my search-fu is failing me if so, I keep finding requests to hide certain categories form archive pages/etc but not disappear categories entirely. Has anyone done this?

    I assume you mean in the after post meta area, I came across this post the other day, it might have what you are after!

    EDIT:
    Sorry, copy across content.php to the child theme, find:

    $categories_list = get_the_category_list( __( ', ', 'twentyeleven' ) );
    if ( $categories_list ):

    Change to:

    $categories_list = '';
    if ( $categories_list ):

    Then it will not output the categories!

    I'm not sure I asked the question well enough here's an example of a page that still shows the category in the meta: at the base of the post

    I've always found WP's categories to be extraneous in addition to tagging, so I'm trying to fully eradicate mention of them them now that I'm hosting myself. I had hoped to do it all in CSS but have had bad luck with it so far.

    I'll keep pounding away. Thanks.

    Ok that is the single.php and the content is in the template part called content-single.php copy that file to your child theme!

    Same answer find (content-single.php line 30):
    $categories_list = get_the_category_list( __( ', ', 'twentyeleven' ) );
    Change to:
    $categories_list = '' );

    Have a look at the other files in Twenty Eleven starting content-, and you will see the different files, for gallery, aside, page, etc:, these are the same as the old loop.php files, the second part -page relates to the tempate file.

    Ok, will give it a shot. My php and wordpress is rusty so looks like I'll be scraping the rust off and getting some elbows dirty. Thanks!
