   Where can I find a tutorial that will explain the differences to me, and how to effectively use them?

   My English is very bad, so I can explain only in short:
   Just look here around on the forum. There are forum categories and tags. By clicking on a tag you will find all posts of all categories that have content related to that special tag.
   So you can say, categories are the main chapters and tags a better or special form of navigation. Both are useful for users to find content - especially when you have much content.
   Links are hypertext jumps between websites. You can link to your friends sites, to other useful sites and so on.
