   Is it possible to turn off not only the richtext editor, but the pre-2.0 editor as well, so I can get down to the nitty gritty of the HTML.

   Unless you are using a 3rd party application to post to your WordPress installation, you would need one of the editors in order to post. The plain text editor is where you would do your "nitty gritty" HTML editing.
