Ok, now if I have a site built at http://www.wordpress.com, I am able to go to each page or posting and click or unclick a check to tell it whether I want someone to be allowed or not allowed to post a comment.
How do I do this with the WordPress that I downloaded and used on my personal web domain?
When you're editing a post/page there's a checkbox that lets you allow/disallow comments. If you don't see the option, make sure it is set to be displayed in screen options (top right).
