• Hi. I am trying to find out how you stop WordPress from archiving. I have searched everywhere. Including Google. Nothing. In Blogger it is easy to find. WordPress nothing. Except to say it has a default process. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • I wonder if you are confused by the way WP uses the term ‘Archive’?

It is not an archive in the traditional sense of being a separate collection of items. An archive in WP is just a way to query items that meet certain criteria. For example, all posts that were created in 2010 would be the year 2010 archive. The posts have not changed at all, or moved from one place to another. They simply are shown when those posts with a post year of 2010 are selected.

So, there is no way to ‘turn off archiving’ because it is never ‘turned on’. It is simply a way of querying different groups of posts.

Thanks for that vtxyzzy. So nothing will drop out of Google? Which it does when it is archived.

Nothing should drop out of Google because nothing changes in the database. A WP Archive is just a way of retrieving data, not a way of storing data.
