Trying to use my theme's RSS feed icon on subdomains

Hi,
I’m trying to use my theme’s RSS feed button in the social button widget for each of my subdomains. Yet, when I do that on any subdomain, the button goes nuts. Instead of pulling up the subscribe page, it repeats itself like a cracked record and ends up going nowhere. It behaves correctly only in my root domain. The only problem is that my root domain has nothing new to feed; only my subdomains have something new to feed.
Any help is appreciated.
