Trying to change the install files so they do not create a blog roll?

    I would like to change the default settings to call the default category “links” rather then blog roll. I would also like to know how to edit the links that appear there after an install. Anyone?

    Login to your wp admin area, click on the “Links” menu option, then “Link Categories”
    There should be an “Edit” link for each category, click the one you want, and change the name.

    Also, from the main “Links” menu, you can add/edit/delete any link you want.

    Have a look at the install file /wp-admin/install.php line 145 onwards (WP 1.5.2)
