I don't know anything about WordPress and I want to remove a site that was put up a few years ago. The person who put it up is no longer around and I don't have access to anyone who knows anything about how to do this.
From what I've read on this forum I need to use PHP among other things. I'm sorry that i am ignorant of all these things but I don't even know what that means.
Is there a way to simply remove the site if I am not already familiar with how to build and alter websites? So far I have removed everything, when I try to log in it says that there is no such account, which would be great but when I try to go to the new site (that I did on iWeb - I've done other iWeb sites and not run into this before) it defaults to this page: http://unitystage.org/
I got this advice "In the root of the server where you had WordPress installed you should find a index.php file which you want to delete. What remains is the index.html (.html not .php) from iWeb for the iWeb website to be reachable by entering http://unitystage.org"
I don't know how to find the root of the server where we had WordPress installed.
Anyone know how I can either delete site or find root of server?
Thanks for any help you can provide
The root can really be anywhere. You should contact your hosting provider and they can walk you through the shut down process.

Thanks, Gabe.
So my web host provider (Go Daddy, in my case) should be able to tell me how to shut down a WordPress site while still keeping the domain name (URL) active for the new site?
Or, alternatively - they can help me figure out how to find (or at least look for) the root?
That would be so very wonderful - I will give them a buzz tomorrow.
Yes, GoDaddy should be able to walk you through how to do that. Remember that you are paying them for this service. Those should not be challenging questions for them.
GoDaddy will be able to tell you how to delete all the content from your website. Tell them that :)

Thanks Gabe and Ipstenu!
You were right!
I was a little skeptical about asking Go Daddy to remove a WordPress site for me but based on your assurances I called them and they took me through all the steps (there were a LOT of them - seemed extremely complicated for a novice like me - I never would have been able to figure it out on my own) and my problem is now resolved.
I am so very happy - thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!!

My Tools menu selection has no Delete Site option. What is the workaround to delete a site?
That option is for WordPress.COM installs.
If you want to delete the site, delete the database and all the files from your server.

I think this is hosted by WordPress. How do I get to that file server?
If the option's not there, you're not on WordPress.com and thus not hosted by WordPress.

Obviously, I don't know how this works technically. However, this is what I recall. We started out as a WordPress site with wordpress.com on the end of the URL. Then we paid two charges to change that.
The first says Domain Mapping for http://woomammdotcom.wordpress.com $12.00. The second says Domain Registration – woomamm.com mapped to http://woomammdotcom.wordpress.com $5.00. I have no record of another host hosting this site. I thought that charge was for WordPress hosting.
That site is hosted with wordpress.com, so you need to ask your question on http://en.forums.wordpress.com/
http://woomamm.com/ is not on wordpress.com
I can tell cause your CSS: http://woomamm.com/wp-content/themes/kingsize/style.css
ThemeForest themes ain't on .com :)
You can't delete it that way. WordPress.com is your registrar though, that's a different thing, and you're redirecting.
