troubles modiying PO nl_NL

    I’ve read the topics on translation and internationalisation and the GNU framework and after i wanted to try it out by first overwriting my current english version by a dutch one so i i’ve downloaded the dutch version and i deleted under languages the .pot file and i uploaded the nl_NL.po and nl_NL.mo file. I also changed the wp_config.php DEFINE language to nl_NL.

    No changes are made.
    What did i do wrong?

    EDIT: before i read the guidelines, i already changed some translations manually in the code, e.g.:

    _n( ‘1ne repliek op “%2$s”’, ‘%1$s replieken over “%2$s”’)

    instead of _n( ‘1 reply on “%2$s”’, ‘%1$s replies on“%2$s”’

    Do i have to generate new ‘old translations’ in a .po again or something?

    Is this for a theme or WordPress itself? Where is your languages folder? in wp-content?

    Try deleting your browsers cookies and cache.

    yes, in wp-content > themes > languages.

    browser cookies and cache doesnt work

    So it’s for a theme.

    Try translating your theme with this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/codestyling-localization/
    It can scan your theme for all translatable strings and create po and .mo files.

    Not sure now. if it’s for WordPress the .mo file goes into:
    wp-content/languages

    http://nl.wordpress.org/ –> i just selected wp-content > themes > twentyeleven and then all the .mo files and uploaded them.

    I don’t think so. They are still translatable strings.

    Is this a network (multi) site?
    Are you sure the define in wp-config.php is correct?

    Maybe you took the language files from:
    wp-content/languages/
    instead of:
    wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/languages/

    try downloading the language files again and put them in the correct folder.

    Omg my bad, you are right! It’s because the english standard version doesnt have a dir wp-content/languages. The dutch version does have it!

    Thanks, now it works fine except for hover texts and some untranslated other strings but ill find that from now i guess.

    –> maybe ill also have to upload this dir wp-content/languages for the not yet translated comments?

    that language directory is for WordPress itself (wp-admin). Upload the dir if you want it in Dutch. Not sure what you mean by “not yet translated comments”.

    Try scanning your theme (twentyeleven) for translatable strings with the plugin, translate them and create a new .mo file.
