trouble with themes working

Hi I have recently got my web host and domain sorted out and only today started using wordpress. Have uploaded a new theme into the wpcontent folder, and uploaded everythign I need to…. yet the theme isn’t showing… the images won’t show. Have I done somethign wrong?
