[resolved] Trouble uploading Templatic Website Theme Using FTP (localhost through MAMP) (7 posts)

    Hi there,
I apologize in advance -- am new to word press and am not a developer (1st time creating a website or blog of any sort). I was trying to select a video-friendly theme and found "video" from Templatic. I was trying to upload the theme to wp-content/themes directory by installing Filezilla. I am using MAMP to locally host and test my video website on my Macbook Air. In Filezilla, for the
Host I used local host (and have also tried the IP address when file sharing is on)
    username I used root
password left blank (also tried root)
    port I used 8888

I made sure that file sharing, FTP access was on, but even when it was not initially checked, I got the same message:
    Status: Resolving address of localhost
    Status: Connecting to 127.0.0.1:8888...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
    Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
    Status: Waiting to retry...
    Status: Resolving address of localhost
    Status: Connecting to 127.0.0.1:8888...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
    Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server

Any help to upload the theme to wordpress would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thank you dmd54. I checked the link you suggested but I have already used MAMP to set up the localhost for WordPress. I am having difficulty in using Filezilla to upload the new theme to the wp-content/themes directory. Not sure why the connection keeps timing out.

IF you already have WordPress running on a localhost you should be able to do everything through MAMP, no need for an FTP.

I think WordPress is actually asking for the username and password for your macbook user account. Mine does this since I switched to Lion. Some permission thing.

Thanks for the suggestions. Dmd54, you were right on. I was able to upload the theme through MAMP and didn't need FTP. Thanks!
