    Hi,

I'm getting this error message when I try to upload images in either the WP page I'm editing or the main media page:

“LAA-banner-waterfalls.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
    Missing a temporary folder.

Why would I be missing a 'temporary folder'? I haven't touched the WP files since I uploaded them. Please help!

    Thanks in advance.

hmm, I think creating a /tmp folder in the root WordPress directory should fix this.

Also, I am receiving this message when trying to update WP:

Unable to locate WordPress Root directory.
    Installation Failed

Are the two problems are connected?

Possibly. Sounds like your WordPress install could do with some work!

You'll need to check your file permissions. All file should be 644, and folder 755. Its a good idea to check these settings with your host too though, as they could vary.

It should go in the same folder as your WordPress files - where you have your wp-admin, wp-content etc. Its called 'tmp' no slash or e!

    Hmmm... tmp file didn't work.

Its a folder you should be creating. Also make sure your file persmissions are as I mentioned. Especially for your uploads folder.

Yes, I created a new folder. Even tried it as WP-tmp. Nothing. How do I check my 'file permissions'?

    Thanks again for the help.

WodPress doesn't have a tmp folder inside wp-content normally. Try asking your hosts for assistance with this. It could be a server configuration issue.

In your FTP program right click on the folder and it should have an option related to file permissions/

File permissions all OK. Will call ISP in the morning. Thanks for your help Darren and Esmi.
