some servers need to chmod 777 the /wp-content
folder the 1st time you upload
after that chmod 755 should work
Awesome thanks! Worked like a charm.
Hi
I Have a similar problem uploading images. When I attempted to upload I get the error message ‘The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/mysite/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/05’. As this is the first time I have attempted this in WP I created the directories /2009 and /05. I also changed the /wp-content folder to 777, the other folders to 755. But no luck, I still get the same error message. I’m using the hostroute service. Any advice for a solution would be much appreciated. Thanks.
i too am having a problem, it works great if i change the folder to 777 but if i change it to 775 or 755 it will no longer work. is there some way to change the owner of the folder? what is wordpress’ uid? i also tried making the parent dir 777 then allowing wordpress to create a folder then changing the parent back to 755 and when i tried to change the uploads folder to 755 but i get permission denied.. how is this supposed to work? did i miss something when first installing?
