Trouble setting permissions (3 posts)

I just installed WordPress and I am very happy with it! The problem is, I think I am having trouble getting the permissions for the files/directories right? I followed the instructions at WordPress.org (http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions), and have tried some searches in other forums, without getting it right.

After following the instructions at codex.wordpress.org, I have trouble with the theme-editor (i.e it says: If this file was writable, you could edit it). The files I want to edit have permission sat at 664. If I set it to 666, everything works, but a little to much hazard...? ;)

Is this about my hosting service, wordpress, theme or sth else?

    Hope anyone can help!

Welcome to WordPress and thanks for actually following the instructions and for a good error description.

I think you might need group write permissions (Apache is the effective accessor) on the "directory" that holds the themes (and all their sub-directories).

It's less than optimum from a security POV, but it might work and maybe get you going.

I'll check with my hosting service and see if that helps... Thanks for the quick reply and aid!
