Trouble moving from sub folder to root (1 post)

    Hello,

WordPress novice here looking for a little guidance. I've created a website at http://www.lonerock.com/newsite that I want to move to http://www.lonerock.com. There is already a website sitting at the domain, but it's just simple html (hence my reason to want a WordPress site instead that is more dynamic and has a CMS).

I followed the steps here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress under 'On Your Existing Server' after backing everything up. After making the changes to my WordPress URLs in Settings > General to the http://www.lonerock.com address, my access was severed (to be expected as the tables in my database changed as a result). Then, I used Cyberduck to remove everything from the main root folder and relocated the files in /newsite to the root. After I did this, I kept getting a 500 error. I did notice there there was no .htaccess file anywhere as the steps mentioned. Even after I told my FTP client to show hidden files.

Since I basically killed both sites in the process, I decided to move files back to where they originally were and restore my database to a point before changing the URLs. This fixed the 500 error, but now I'm right back where I started.

It may be worth nothing that the sites are hosted by Yahoo Small Business. Any thoughts on where I may be going wrong? Why I don't have an .htaccess file?

    Please help!

    -Patrick
