Trouble connecting to ftp from dashboard

    Install works ok, this is just a dashboard connect to ftp question.

    Error: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.

    This is happening from the dashboard when I try to say, delete a theme.
    I have entered the same info that my FTP program uses.. is that not what is supposed to be entered here?
    I can FTP into the server just fine but want to be able to use the dashboard for these functions as well.

    Just to add:
    I tried uploading an image in a post and got this error:

    Unable to create directory
    /home/****/public_html/websitename.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07.
    Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Again I can FTP into all areas of this server.

    EDIT: I CHANGED PERMISSIONS ON THE WP-ADMIN & WP-CONTENT
    and now the image upload thing works.

    I still cannot connect to the ftp server through the dashboard!!
    any help?

    This if fixed.
    My host helped, mostly my problem was an inaccurate login name.

    I can now use the dashboard!!
