Tried to upgrade, now WP can't find my database (5 posts)

So I tried to upgrade from 2.6.5 to 2.7.1, followed the upgrade process meticulously, and now wordpress apparently can't even see my database.

It is showing that I have one post, (the starting "hello world" post), when in fact I have something like 33.

I restored my database and that did nothing.

So I deleted the entire wordpress directory on my site and tried to restore my old 2.6.5 one. Same results. Doesn't recognize my theme, can't see my database, doesn't recognize that I even have wp in its own directory.

The worst thing is, I can't log in. Should I start panicking? Please advise.

    Thanks!

if it cant see your database, then how would it see the theme?

do you have a real mysql backup, taken from phpmyadmin or equiv?

    do things methodically.

Install ONE working copy of wordpress that is the same version of what was being used at the time you performed a backup of the db, in the same location as it was before (the ROOT of your site)

    Import your saved database dump.

    2 very simple steps. :)

if you cant figure it out -- I will, for a donation.

why the attitude? I was very polite in my post.

Yes, that was a real mysql backup, restored from myphpadmin. Also, I put back ONE (why would I have put 2?) working copy of wordpress, right where it was before, in its own directory in the ROOT of my site.

When I originally installed I was able to get it working fine in its own directory, by logging in and adjusting the settings. Problem is, I can't log in now.

Where should I go from here?

    Thanks!
