I'm really hoping someone can help me get out of this mess I'm in.

Let me start by saying i'm a beginner at this wordpress stuff and I'm muddling my way through.

So I built my wordpress site locally on MAMp, its now ready to launch so i bought a domain and hosting and followed the steps on this tutorial for transferring everything http://www.http://learn2wordpress.com/tutorials/install-wordpress-locally-with-mamp/ if you scroll down the tutorial is quite near the bottom of the page.
So I did everything it said in this tutorial up until "No. 8. Go to your wp-config.php file and add the database info that you created/used for the new database." I got confused and went wrong somewhere, my domain wouldn't find the database so out of panic I have to go back into my MAMP database and manually edit the URL's for Site URL and Home URL. Now i can get back onto the WordPress Dashboard via MAMP but can't visit my site from the dashboard, it just comes up with Safari can't open the page "http://localhost/comsimonecattell/" because Safari can't connect to the server "localhost".

    Can anyone help me?

I would agree with esmi, to check out Moving_WordPress..

This sounds like a wp-config issue.

Maybe start over from the beginning until you nail it.
