• I know nothing about coding, which is why I use WordPress. I use the Easel theme. I tried to add this generated ad code from clicksor by going to appareance > editor > header.php and entered the code there. I obviously don’t one what I’m doing cause now I keep getting this page that says

“Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/koreys/public_html/home/wp-content/themes/easel/functions/custom-header.php:53) in /home/koreys/public_html/home/wp-login.php on line 368

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/koreys/public_html/home/wp-content/themes/easel/functions/custom-header.php:53) in /home/koreys/public_html/home/wp-login.php on line 380″

a bunch of times. It’s just a whiote screen. I get this when I try and log in or out of my wordpress acount. I’m logged in right now which is good because if I were logged out I wouldn’t be able to get back in. This screen pops up every now and then I guess because I messed around with some coding I shouldn’t have. But I don’t want to lose everything and start from scratch. Does anybody know how to fix it back to normal?

  • This thread explains what to do with that warning:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_do_I_solve_the_Headers_already_sent_warning_problem.3F

If that does not work, you could replace the modified header.php file with a new copy of the original version — download a new copy of the theme to your local computer and replace the file via FTP.

Also, you really should not be making changes in theme files — but instead using a Child Theme. That way your changes won’t be overwritten when the theme is updated.

Thank you so much. You saved the day.

I will try this and I’m sure it will work. I’m almost clear, except… I had to restart the computer and now I’m no longer signed in to make the necessary changes. When I log in I get the message I mentioned. I simply can’t reach my login page!!! Is there any other way to log in othe rthan going to mydomain.com/wp-admin???

Here are several – hopefully one will work for you…

You might just want to replace the file via FTP – you should have that access from your host.

Honestly, like I tried to explain in the previous post I know NOTHING about web design, which is why I use wordpress. My site has been up for only a couple days. Can you explain to my in bacis laymans terms the steps I need to follow to do all this from my hostgator control panel? Can we converse using an instant messaging service maybe?

Hostgator should have good information about using their control panel or FTP.

    Here’s some info on FTP:

It’s really pretty easy – you can do it – just take it slow and breathing is good too :). It’s not any harder than moving files on your local computer or attaching files to email.

Man just give me your AIM or MSN handle. I’m been trying and having a hard time. I’m very frustrated. I can’t find where to go

Is there anyone else reading this who can be a little more helpful? My entire site was made through WordPress. I never used FTP. If anyone is reading this and willing to help, please do. I simply do not know where to access the areas where I edit my footer and header through FTP

Sorry you are struggling with this, but there’s not much anyone else on these forums can do to fix this for you – help is offered here only. Perhaps Hostgator’s support can help. Or you could consider hiring someone — http://jobs.wordpress.net/

FTP does not access files, nor let you edit them in the same way the admin access does. It’s just a way of moving files to/from the server, so you’d need to make changes in the files on your local computer using a text editor.
