• I will soon be embarking on a long trip and want to document everything in a blog. My idea is to have a basic template that includes the title of my location, the blog text, a few photos, and a map of the current location.

I have some examples already here, but I’m not 100% happy with several aspects yet:

I think what I want (although I’m very open to better ideas) is to have one master map with the entire route plotted on it as I go, and then per post be able to specify where to center that map to show that day’s location. Each post would be zoomed in to that location (and stay fixed forever) and then the master map (on an “Overview” page) would show the entire route.

I haven’t figured out how to do that. I want to avoid making multiple maps if possible, and I don’t want a given post’s map to move when I update it for the next location. (i.e., If a post is about Rome and I update the master map to be Istanbul I don’t want the Rome post map to re-center on Istanbul.)

I’ve looked at several of the map plugins (mainly Umapper and GeoPress) and I am not sure they do what I want. Before investing more hours trying others I thought I would ask if anyone else has done this or has suggestions?

    Thanks!

    -Mark
